New for 2020

Have you attended our event in the past? That’s great! We’re excited to have you ride with us again! There are two updates to the schedule of events we want to bring to your attention.

Update #1: Required group start the morning of day 1.

We have decided to start the event (and celebrate 20 years!) with an official police escorted start. Because of this, we are asking all riders to please do the following:

A. Drive to the host event (Aarchway Inn) the morning of the event.

B. Be ready to ride by 7:45am.

Some factors that went into this decision are an increase in # of cyclists, feedback from past cyclists, and other event traffic Saturday morning.

We will have an official police escort start at 8am, which will allow for our riders to cycle north on highway 191 (with no vehicles!) until you are over the Colorado River Bridge and can safely enter the bike path. An optional 8:30 police escort may also occur, but we strongly encourage everyone to be ready for the 8am start. Let’s start off our 20th event in style, and together!

Upon returning to Moab on the completion of your ride, you will follow the bike path back to the Colorado River, over the pedestrian bridge, and along the bike path that contours Lions Park. Please advise, a concurrent event will be happening at Lions Park. Please be aware of pedestrians on the bike path as you cycle through.

Update #2: Accessing the routes from the Aarchway Inn

For the safety of our participants staying or parking at the Aarchway Inn, and via encouragement from our local law enforcement, cyclists needing to access the bike path for Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday rides are asked to do so by making a right out of the Aarchway Inn parking lot, and riding the road a 1/2 mile to the light at the intersection of Highway191 and 500 West.

This will allow riders to safely use the street light/crosswalk to cycle across Highway 191 and onto the bike path.

Riders will not be allowed to cycle against the traffic on Hwy191 as has happened in years past. (Participants cycling from town will already be safely on the bike path that begins at the stoplight at 500 West.)

COVID-19 Update

Mark and I are in daily contact with our local and state health department officials regarding the COVID-19 virus.  At this time we do not feel the need to cancel our event, however, we are monitoring the situation closely and are seeking the guidance of our local health experts. Should the situation change, we will contact all registered riders as soon as possible. We encourage any participant who may currently feel ill to not travel for the event. Any rider feeling they prefer not to travel, in general, is welcome to transfer their registration for free to the 2021 event. Email Beth at beth@skinnytireevents.com to learn how.

Some precautions we are currently making for the event:

  • Education and training for our volunteers and staff

  • Increased hand sanitizer, hand washing stations, and Clorox wipes available

  • Increased communication with Southeast Utah Health Department, Moab City Officials, and Moab Regional Hospital

Want to know what you can do? Check this link with the CDC for a lot of helpful and factual information.

Questions?

No problem, we are here to help! Simply email Beth at beth@skinnytireevents.com, or feel free to call us at 435.260.8889 between 9am and 5pm MST with any questions you may have.

And oh yeah…the weather report is looking FANTASTIC!

We can't wait to cycle with you in Moab!

Sincerely,

Beth & Mark
