Moab Century Tour is a go!
Fall Event to Proceed with Adjustments
Dear Cyclists,
We are happy to report that after many conversations with local entities, our volunteers, our staff, some cyclists and ourselves - We are proceeding with the 2020 Moab Century Tour, to be held September 19th and 20th. While we recognize the COVID-19 pandemic is still quite serious across the country, we feel unique in that our event can - with many adjustments and safety protocols in place - safely happen. We feel fortunate that the very nature of our event is to provide safe access to Moab’s amazing landscape for our cyclists.
This decision did not come easily and not without a lot of thought about how we would run our event safely. We are working tirelessly to offer a safe riding experience in September! We will continue to share more information around this topic in the coming weeks, but for now here is a list of what’s in the works:
A streamlined rider check-in process
Eliminating the mass group starts
Socially distant aid stations and vehicle assistance units
Electronic waiver submissions
Prepackaged food service
Masks will be required by all staff, volunteers, and participants (when not cycling).
Please do not travel to Moab without a mask. We mask, in Moab.
We will be sending out more info in the coming weeks as we get closer to the event dates.
Due to the COVID19 pandemic and an unprecedented number of STF transfers in March, the transfer portal is closed until further notice. If registering for MCT2020 or STF2021 between May 2020 and September 2020, please note you are doing so under a no refund, no transfer policy. When we are able to bring transferring back as an option, we will.
Beth and I have had our ups and downs in 2020 with all of you. From the gut-wrenching decision to cancel our spring event with short notice, to struggling to do what was right for our registered riders while also keeping our business soluble and afloat, to feeling all the same fears, concerns about keeping our family, our friends, our community and our riders safe. Know that none of these decisions are easy for us, and we wouldn’t try to hold the Moab Century Tour this fall if we didn’t think there would be a safe way to do so. No, we probably won’t have our large outdoor celebration of riders. No, we probably won’t have the opportunity to hug and wrap arms around each other with a “Great ride today” cheer. But we can still come together. We can still cycle for a cause. And we can still feel and see our bike community, even if we do so at a safe distance from each other.
Sincerely,
Mark Griffith
