There are only two kinds of cyclists ... Print E-mail

Quoting Joe Friel, MS a highly respected cycling expert: "There are only two kinds of cyclists, regardless of whether they ride a road or mountain bike: those who have crashed and those who are going to.

We know a lot of you how have been in that first group and we appreciate the wisdom you've shared with us. How can more of us delay becoming part of the second group? Someone recently sent this British commercial to us....tell us what you think:

Why all this talk about bike safety? Because we care.  And we know a lot of you have already had your fill of injuries.  If attending the Moab Century Tour please take a moment to read Utah's rules of the road.

Bike Safety Rules at the Moab Century Tour:
Law enforcement will be patrolling for your safety. We owe them the courtesy of riding within the law.

  1. Ride no more than two abreast.
  2. Ride single file as much as possible. If you must ride double at times, pass as quickly as possible and then single up. Must ride single file where road sign indicates.
  3. Cyclists must wear helmet, wristband and helmet tag while on routes.
  4. Cyclist must obey traffic laws.
  5. Ride on or near the right hand shoulder of road.
  6. Alert other riders when passing by saying "on left".
Remember, this is a recreational ride...cyclists with varying cycling levels participate. Please be courteous.
