Saying Goodbye to Bob Sega Print E-mail
Red Dirt
Wednesday, 17 February 2010
Although I will miss Bob, his spirit will continue with me for the rest of my days. Few people have made such a significant impact in my life in such a short period of time. I have said this many times before but I must say it again. The people who have taught me the most about living are the people around me whose lives have been threatened by cancer. These are all people very close to my heart; my mother and father, Chris States, my friends with CCC and Bob.

People asked me today why I seemed down. I told them that I just lost a friend to cancer and most of them said that they were sorry. I told them that I appreciated the sentiment but that it was okay. There is no need to be sorry. I had the chance to know someone who lived to the fullest and he taught me how to do the same. I am one of the lucky ones. I had the chance to know Bob. Maybe I should feel sorry for them. They missed the chance to learn something about life, dignity, hope and courage.

Twenty or so friends and family of Don and Angee Baune travel to and from the Denver area to give of their time and resources as Amateur Radio Licensed Operators. Thanks to their cool and calm from dawn to dusk, the event happenings throughout the day were cared for.

Utah State Highway Patrol, Grand County Sheriff's Department, and Moab City Police provided safety along the route as well as enjoyable send-off escort and return.

We appreciate YOU...thank you!

FezzariBikes Special Offer from Fezzari

Fezzari is proud to be a sponsor of the Moab Century Tour and The Skinny Tire Festival. We're particularly excited about this because it's an event in our back yard. Fezzari is a Utah-based manufacturer specializing in high-end road and mountain bikes.

What sets Fezzari apart? Why own a Fezzari? If you ask one of the thousands of customers who own a Fezzari, they'll say something like: "I like the quality," "I like the way it rides," "I like the way it fits," "I like the value."

How Effective is Training if you Don't Know Where You Are, or Where You're Headed?

We've all been there; determined that this is the time to push through to that next level of fitness. Sometimes we change our diets, sometimes we change our fitness routine, sometimes we try new products, new coaches, or new cycling routes. We pour our energy into it, giving ourselves a hundred percent believing if we just stick to it, it'll come. But often it simply does not. How are we to figure out why?

"Cycling is about two things: pain and revenge. It's about going through so much pain that you want revenge." Bob Roll

By now, most of you know who Bob Roll is, but in case you haven't seen his (in)famous color commentary on the Tour de France coverage (or Tour "Day Frants", as Bob would say), a little background is in order. He made a name for himself as one of the original members of the 7-Eleven Cycling Team, raced with Lance Armstrong, was on Greg LeMond's Z Team and finally became a cycling commentator for the Versus sports network's coverage of the Tour de France. But Bob was different than most cyclists. Bob was a character, through and through.

Huntsman Cancer Institute -

a Skinny Tire Festival Beneficiary

Scientists and physicians at Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI) conduct research and clinical studies to find better ways to prevent, detect, and treat both common and rare cancers. Their research findings have improved cancer care in Utah, in the region, and throughout the world.  Your gift to Huntsman Cancer Foundation fuels this research.

Three Reasons to Give:

  1. Current statistics indicate one in two men and one in three women and will be diagnosed with cancer in his or her lifetime.
  2. You fund innovation. HCI's tissue and tumor biobanking is among one of "10 Ideas Changing the World Right Now," according to Time Magazine.  HCI depends on private donations to fund novel ideas that help researchers unlock the mysteries of cancer every single day.
  3. HCI serves the largest geographic region in the country.  When you need the hope offered by HCI, you are grateful for its proximity to you.
Join the Huntsman Hometown Heroes Team at the Moab Skinny Tire Festival and receive a team jersey, automatic entry to Arches National Park and much more.
